It is very difficult to pin down one favourite cinema from the large ocean of extremely well-made movies. For this discussion I will talk about 'The Shawshank Redemption'. This prison drama is on the top of my list primarily because of two things. One is the performances and two is the camera work. Initially when the movie released it was not well received but gradually audience all around the work started to take note and engaged better with the movie. Morgan Freeman's calm yet strong composure and Tim Robbins' character growth has been shown really beautifully. The character growth is a classical feature of good Hollywood movies. A character will not be the same how it started in the beginning of the narrative. In this movie there is no typical representation of the prison. The scenes are realistic and all thanks to the director for focusing on the characters intensely. The depictions are real. Not only the main plot but the subplot where we get to know the story of Brooks is also painstakingly real. Andy's story and Brook's story show what a contrast life can be. ''Brooks was here''- is etched in our memory.
